What's New

May was another busy month working on the CD, getting ready for the upcoming shows and teaching.  I am  looking forward to another busy month in June.

My Goal for having the CD finished by June 15, unfortunatley will not happen. I hope to have it finished and ready for release by June 25, however that is being very optimistic. A more relistic date would be sometime in July. More than half the songs have been recorded. I will keep you updated.

Guitar Playing Tips

So you want to play fast, well here are some things to keep in mind.  First remember that fast playing is simply excuting a fast passage of musical notes, not frantic flapping of the fingers.  You are making music, make sure that you use speed tastefully.

Keep the pick flat, lock your wrist and create your picking motion by your forearm and elbow.  Pay close attention to how much movement you have in both your fretting hand and picking hand.  Your pick should not move in either direction very far and your fingers on your fret hand should not move very far off the fretboard. When possible keep your fingers fretted.  Minimal movement is one of the keys to speed.

Start of slowly, practice in repetitions after all lighing reactions must be carefully trained. Use a metronome and keep pushing the upper range of your speed, play relaxed, and do not get frustrated.  Speed is a skil that like many others require dilligent practice and lots of time.

Note to Students

The remodeling of the store is coming along and should be finished shortly.  There will be a new entrance on the west side of the building.  Also the studio that I currently am using will be turned into the drum studio, and I will be moved to one of the other studios, which one has yet to be determined.

Please remember the store is starting their summer hours on the first of June.  They will close at 7:00 pm if your lesson is at 7:00 please try to be a couple minutes early to avoid possibly being locked out.

If you are planning a summer vacation and will be missing lessons please try to inform me at least 2 weeks in advanced if possible.

Party and Event Tips

Summer cocktail parties are a great way of entertaining and celebtating.  If you are having one of these fun events this summer the first thing you might consider is to choose a theme.  Your theme can be anythng you can think of.  Some basic ideas would be things such as a beach theme, a tiki theme, an island theme, a mountain theme, a deseret theme, a french theme, an italian theme.  Your theme could be based on some time out of history, say the roaring 20's, or the 50's, whatever you choose giving your party a theme will set your apart.

Create a good atomosphere, serve simple delicous food, offer great drinks and have fun.  Also be sure to give thought to the little details such as seating, lighting, decor and music.
