Tidbits

What's New

Both the Utah Arts Festival and the Park Silly Sunday Market shows went extremely well.  There was a great turnout for both shows, and everyone seemed to enjoy the music.  I would like to thank all who attended your support is greatly appreciated.

October 28, 2008 is the new tentative release date for the CD, if all goes as planned I should be able to make this date.  However, one thing I have learned is things seldom go as planned.  Please be patient, there is a CD on the way.

For more information on the upcoming CD please click here.

Guitar Playing Tips

Most players will reach for a knob to change their tone, be it on their guitar or on the amp.  While this will certainly change your tone, there is another way, a way that gives you the control, not a knob.  What is the secret, it is all in how you pluck the string.

Where you pluck, what you pluck with, and how you pluck the string will all affect the tone of your playing.  Plucking back by the bridge will produce a bright tone, while plucking in the middle of the body, or closer to the neck will produce a warmer tone.  If you use a pick to pluck the strings, how you attack the string with the pick will help you achieve differences in tone.  By using the pick on an angle as opposed to flat will produce different results.  Also if you use the side of the pick you can achieve a much different tone that using the pick flat. The same goes for those who use fingers to pluck the strings. Using your fingernail will produce a much brighter tone than just the flesh of your fingertips. Rest strokes compared to free strokes will produce different tones. Experiment, listen and the next time you want to change your tone, instead of reaching for a knob, change how and where you pluck the string and you will have more control over your overall sound.

Note to Students

Just a reminder there will be no lessons on Thursday July 24, 2008 in observance of Pioneer Day.

The remodeling of the store is coming along and should be finished shortly. The drum studio is now in studio 3, where I use to be, I am now in the new studio at the front of the store.

If you are planning a summer vacation and will be missing lessons please try to inform me at least 2 weeks in advanced if possible.

Party and Event Tips

Having a party on the fourth of July is a great tradition that will bring together both kids and adults. Adding a theme to any party will always help yours stand out. Some good theme ideas for a 4th of July party are; backyard bbq, picnic in the park, clambake, or a good old fashion pot luck.

A spacious back yard or nice park make great locations to have your party. Remember to serve good food and don't forget the favorites; hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelon, and of course root beer floats. Be sure to have some games to help entertain your guests, some examples are; three legged race, US trivia, flag relay using small American flags, limbo, or even a bubble blowing contest. Also be sure to use a lot of red, white and blue decorations. Have fun, and be safe.
